Jakarta: A devastating collision between a passenger bus and a diesel fuel tanker has claimed 16 lives on Indonesia’s Sumatra island. The accident occurred on Wednesday in North Musi Rawas Regency, leading to a ‘massive fire’ that completely engulfed both vehicles.
Disaster agency official Hasbi Hasidqi reported that 14 bus passengers and two individuals from the tanker were killed in the crash. Initial investigations suggest the bus driver lost control after a tyre burst.
In addition to the fatalities, four people have been hospitalized, three of whom are being treated for serious burns.
This tragedy follows a series of high-profile transport accidents in Indonesia, including a train collision last month in West Java that also killed 16 people.
