CANBERRA: Australian authorities confirmed on Wednesday that a group of 13 citizens related to alleged Islamic State members is returning home from Syria.
The group, consisting of four women and nine children from the Roj detention camp, is expected to arrive at airports in Sydney and Melbourne on Thursday.
Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke emphasized that the government is not providing any assistance for their return, stating that individuals who committed crimes ‘can expect to face the full force of the law’.
Federal Police Commissioner Krissy Barrett confirmed that some individuals will be arrested and charged upon arrival, while others remain under investigation for crimes such as traveling to prohibited areas.
For the nine children in the group, the government has mandated community integration and therapeutic support programs to assist in their transition.
