CALIFORNIA: Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg defended the company’s massive financial commitment to artificial intelligence on Wednesday, even as the heavy spending caused stock prices to dip.
Despite reporting a strong quarterly profit of $26.8 billion, Meta raised its capital expenditure forecast for the year to a staggering $125 billion to $145 billion. Zuckerberg emphasized that the company is prioritizing long-term "bets" on AI quality over immediate product launch timelines.
A key focus of this investment is the development of ‘agentic’ AI digital assistants capable of handling tasks independently for users. Zuckerberg also spotlighted the ‘Muse Spark’ AI model, developed by Meta's new ‘Superintelligence Lab,’ which will be integrated into smartglasses and advertising systems.
While competitors like Google and Microsoft generate direct revenue through AI cloud services, Meta's spending is currently focused on infrastructure and hiring top-tier talent to chase ‘superintelligence’.
