China to ban drone sales in Beijing citing security concerns

BEIJING: In a major move to bolster urban safety, China has announced a comprehensive ban on drone sales and operations within the capital, Beijing. Citing heightened ‘security fears,’ authorities have restricted the purchase and flight of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to prevent potential threats to public safety and sensitive government installations.

This regulation reflects growing global concerns regarding the use of small, low-flying drones in densely populated political hubs.

The new rules require current drone owners in the city to register their devices with the police, while retailers have been ordered to pull consumer models from their shelves immediately.

Officials stated that the measure is necessary to maintain order during high-profile events and to protect the capital's airspace from unauthorized surveillance or interference.

While drone enthusiasts and tech companies have expressed concerns over the impact on the local industry, the government maintains that national security remains the absolute priority in the current technological landscape.
