King Charles III honours 9/11 victims during New York visit
King Charles III and Queen Camilla visited the National September 11 Memorial on Wednesday, marking a solemn moment on the third day of their state visit to the United States.
The royal couple paid tribute to victims of the 2001 attacks during a ceremony attended by former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, who now chairs the memorial foundation. The visit, held under heightened security, included engagements with first responders and emergency personnel.
Zohran Mamdani was also present at the event, though officials confirmed there were no plans for a private meeting with the King.
Following the memorial visit, King Charles is scheduled to travel to Harlem to support a local community initiative, while Queen Camilla will attend a literary event at the New York Public Library, marking 100 years of the beloved character Winnie-the-Pooh.
The visit to New York comes after a series of high-level engagements in Washington, including a state dinner hosted by Donald Trump at the White House. During the event, King Charles delivered a light-hearted speech referencing historical ties between the two nations, drawing laughter from attendees.
Earlier, the monarch addressed the United States Congress—only the second British monarch to do so—highlighting the longstanding alliance between the UK and the US.
President Trump also held a private meeting with King Charles in the Oval Office, with discussions reportedly touching on global security issues, including tensions related to Iran.
The four-day state visit, aimed at reinforcing transatlantic ties, is set to conclude on April 30 following a series of diplomatic and cultural engagements across the United States.
