The United Arab Emirates supported one of the largest mass weddings in Gaza, where 300 couples tied the knot in a ceremony aimed at easing financial hardship and restoring a sense of normalcy amid ongoing challenges.

The event took place in central Gaza and drew an estimated 20,000 attendees, including families, community leaders, and representatives of local and international organisations.

Organised under the UAE’s humanitarian initiative “Gallant Knight 3,” the wedding was part of the “Joy Dress 2” programme, which helps young people overcome rising economic barriers to marriage.

Organizers selected participants from thousands of applicants who registered earlier this year. Organisers said priority went to first-time brides and grooms who met specific income and eligibility criteria.

In addition to the ceremony, couples received financial assistance and essential household items to help them begin married life, covering key wedding expenses and basic needs.

The event combined formal and cultural elements, including Quran recitations, official marriage declarations, and traditional Palestinian dabke performances. UAE and Palestinian national anthems were also played.

Ali Al Shahi, head of the UAE delegation in Gaza, said the initiative reflects the country’s continued commitment to supporting Gaza’s population during difficult conditions. The Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, which backed the programme, described it as part of broader efforts to promote social stability and provide targeted humanitarian relief.

Many participants described the wedding as a turning point; some couples had delayed marriage due to financial strain, displacement, or injuries sustained during the conflict.
