Iowa City: Three students from the University of Iowa were injured in a shooting early Sunday in Iowa City, in an area popular for nightlife and restaurants just off campus.

University president Barbara Wilson confirmed the injuries and said students were receiving support and counseling after the incident.

Police said officers responded shortly before 2 a.m. local time following reports of a large fight in the area. An investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made so far.

Authorities said the shooting occurred near a busy entertainment district close to the university, a location frequently visited by students.

The United States continues to face recurring gun violence incidents, including shootings in and around college campuses.
