Caracas: Venezuela will restore relations with the International Monetary Fund after ties were suspended in 2019, interim President Delcy Rodriguez said on Thursday.
“We have resumed Venezuela’s representation in this international organisation,” Rodriguez said during a televised address, adding that the government was normalising all processes involving the country’s rights within the IMF.
The IMF confirmed it had resumed dealings with Venezuela after more than six years of suspension linked to government recognition disputes. The move could pave the way for the first full IMF assessment of Venezuela’s economy in around two decades and potentially unlock access to financial resources.
The renewed engagement marks a significant step in Venezuela’s efforts to stabilise its crisis-hit economy and rebuild international financial ties.
