Easter Truce Between Russia and Ukraine Comes Into Effect

A temporary Easter ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine came into force on Saturday, offering a brief pause in the ongoing conflict.

The truce, ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin, is set to last 32 hours—from 4:00 pm Saturday until the end of Sunday, according to the Kremlin. The move follows a proposal made earlier by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Kyiv confirmed it would observe the ceasefire but warned it would respond immediately if Russia violates the agreement. Zelensky stated that Ukraine would only refrain from action if there were no attacks from Russian forces across air, land, or sea.

Ukraine’s military also said it is fully prepared to react swiftly to any breach of the truce.

Despite the pause, skepticism remains among civilians, particularly in frontline areas such as Kharkiv, where residents continue to face frequent attacks and remain cautious about the durability of the ceasefire.
