MOSCOW: A 17 year-old student fatally stabbed his Russian language and literature teacher at the entrance of School No. 5 in Dobryanka, a town in Russia’s Perm region.

The victim, 55-year-old Olesya Petrovna Baguta, was the suspect's homeroom teacher and tragically succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital shortly after the targeted attack.

The ninth-grade suspect, who reportedly struggled with academic performance and had a prior police record, was apprehended by authorities at the scene. Preliminary reports suggest the motive was rooted in a long-standing ‘personal grudge’ or conflict regarding his studies. This violent act has deeply shaken the local community, leading to the immediate suspension of all classes.

In the aftermath, Governor Dmitry Makhonin expressed profound condolences, while the Russian Investigative Committee launched a federal probe into the murder and potential security negligence. This tragedy represents a troubling surge in school violence across Russia, raising urgent questions about student mental health and the effectiveness of current campus safety protocols.

Federal investigators are now scrutinizing how the teenager managed to bring a weapon onto school grounds despite existing security measures. As the town of Dobryanka mourns a dedicated veteran educator, the incident has reignited a national debate over the necessity for stricter oversight and better support systems for at-risk youth in schools.
