FRANKFURT: German authorities have arrested a 20-year-old man after he detonated pyrotechnic devices on a high-speed Intercity Express (ICE) train, injuring at least 12 people. The incident took place late Thursday night on a train traveling from Aachen (near Cologne) toward Frankfurt with approximately 180 passengers on board.

According to police statements and witness reports, the suspect threw pyrotechnic devices, some reportedly filled with plastic pellets into the train aisles, causing several passengers to suffer minor flesh wounds and blast injuries.

Following the detonation, a group of passengers confronted the man and managed to lock him in one of the train's bathrooms until the vehicle reached the station in Siegburg.

Upon his arrest, federal police found that the suspect was also armed with two knives and a mask. While a clear motive has not yet been established, German media outlets reported that the suspect allegedly claimed during the incident that he ‘wanted to kill people.’ The train was evacuated and searched for further dangerous objects, though nothing else was found. Of the 12 people injured, most received on-site medical attention, while one individual was briefly hospitalized before being released
