Florida: Tiger Woods was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) following a car crash in Florida and was later released the same night, authorities said.
According to officials, Woods was involved in two vehicle crashes on Friday afternoon in a residential area, where he was reportedly driving at high speed. He sustained minor injuries and was able to exit the vehicle after the incident.
John Budensiek said Woods showed signs of impairment, adding that authorities believe he may have been under the influence of “some type of medication or drug”.
Woods agreed to undergo a breathalyser test but declined to provide a urine sample during the investigation, officials confirmed. No substances were found in his vehicle.
He was taken into custody at the Martin County Jail and held in a separate cell for security reasons. Authorities said the arrangement was made to ensure his safety while in custody.
Woods was released later that night after meeting the required holding period, leaving the facility in a vehicle shortly after 11 pm.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. If found guilty, Woods could face penalties under Florida law, including up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
