Trump extends pause on strikes against Iranian energy plants
US President Donald Trump has extended a temporary halt on military strikes targeting Iranian energy facilities, saying diplomatic talks with Iran are “ongoing.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump announced that the initial five-day pause declared earlier this week would be extended by an additional 10 days, pushing the suspension to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 PM, following what he described as a request from the Iranian government.
The announcement comes as oil prices, which had risen earlier in the day, fell shortly after the news broke, according to market reports.
At a cabinet meeting earlier, Trump warned that the United States would become Iran’s “worst nightmare” if Tehran does not agree to a proposed peace framework.
US special envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed during the same meeting that Washington has formally submitted a 15-point peace plan to Iranian officials.
Meanwhile, an Iranian official told state media that Tehran retains a “natural and legal right” to control the Strait of Hormuz in its response to the proposal.
