U.S. President Donald Trump reaffirmed his “peace through strength” doctrine on Monday, signaling his approach to foreign policy amid rising tensions with Iran.
In a post on his platform Truth Social, Trump wrote: “Peace through strength, so to speak.”
The statement comes as the president renewed warnings to Iran ahead of the expiration of a 48-hour deadline he set for Tehran to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking to Israel’s Channel 13 on Sunday evening, Trump said that “the consequences will become clear soon.”
He also issued a strongly worded message to Iran’s leadership, warning of potential military action targeting energy infrastructure if the demands are not met.
“You will soon see what will happen regarding the warning about targeting power stations,” Trump said. “The outcome will be very strong. There will be comprehensive destruction in Iran, and it will be highly effective.”
Trump had earlier warned that failure to comply with the deadline could result in strikes on Iran’s energy facilities.
