Starmer, Trump Discuss Reopening Strait of Hormuz in Phone Call
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation on Sunday evening to address the ongoing situation in the Middle East, with a particular focus on the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a spokesperson from Downing Street, both leaders emphasized the urgent need to reopen the vital shipping route, which plays a key role in global energy supplies.
“The leaders discussed the current situation in the Middle East, and in particular, the need to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to resume global shipping,” the spokesperson said.
They agreed that restoring access to the Strait is critical for maintaining stability in international energy markets, as disruptions in the waterway could significantly impact global oil and gas flows.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important maritime chokepoints, with a substantial portion of global energy shipments passing through it daily.
