Trump Threatens to “Obliterate” Iran Power Plants
48-Hour Ultimatum Over Strait of Hormuz
U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that the United States could launch strikes on Iran’s power infrastructure if Tehran does not reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Saturday, Trump said the U.S. would “hit and obliterate” Iranian power plants, beginning with the largest facility, if the waterway is not fully reopened without threat.
The warning, issued at 7:44 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time (23:44 GMT), effectively set a deadline extending to late Monday. Trump did not specify which power plant he considered the largest or would target first.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints, and any disruption could have significant global economic implications.
Iran responded with strong rhetoric. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Friday that Tehran would show “zero restraint” if its infrastructure were attacked, signaling a potential escalation in tensions.
The exchange underscores rising friction between Washington and Tehran amid ongoing concerns over regional security and maritime navigation.
