U.S. Military Stands Ready as Trump Considers Iran Options

Washington: Senior U.S. military commanders have moved air and naval assets into key positions across the Middle East, signalling readiness to conduct military strikes on Iran if ordered. These preparations place the armed forces in a posture that could support action as early as this weekend, though no directive has been issued.

Despite the ready posture, President Donald Trump has not taken a final decision on whether to authorise a strike. Officials describe ongoing debates within the White House and among top national security advisers as they weigh the risks and potential consequences of escalation.

The buildup includes aircraft carriers, fighter jets and other forces deployed across the region, part of a larger U.S. strategy to deter Tehran and influence negotiations over its nuclear program. Multiple high-end military assets including carrier strike groups are already in position or en route.

Indirect nuclear talks between the U.S. and Iran in Geneva have made only limited progress. While some diplomatic engagement continues, major gaps remain between the two sides’ positions, leaving room for both negotiation and military contingency planning.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt have publicly emphasised diplomacy as the president’s preferred approach, even as planners prepare for all options. Logistical movements including repositioning personnel are a routine precaution and do not definitively signal an imminent strike.

With tensions high, Tehran’s reaction could broaden conflict dynamics. For now, the decision remains in the hands of Trump as he continues to consult advisers and monitor diplomatic outreach.
