Bahrain, EU review cooperation as Di Maio visits embassy in Brussels

Brussels: The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to Belgium and to the European Union, Mohammed Ali Behzad, received Luigi Di Maio, the EU Special Representative for the Gulf, at the Bahraini embassy in Brussels.

During the meeting, Ambassador Behzad underlined the steady expansion of Bahrain–EU relations, pointing to closer engagement across political dialogue, economic cooperation, trade links and development initiatives.

Both sides reviewed the current pace of joint projects and explored new avenues to strengthen cooperation in areas that support shared priorities and long-term partnership between Bahrain and the European bloc.

Di Maio welcomed the depth of coordination between the EU and Bahrain, describing the Kingdom as an important partner in advancing constructive engagement with Gulf states and in supporting regional stability.

Discussions also addressed wider cooperation between Bahrain and EU institutions, including the European Council and the European Commission, with a focus on reinforcing institutional dialogue and sector-based collaboration.

The talks further highlighted prospects for strengthening Gulf–EU relations during Bahrain’s current presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council, alongside exchanges on a range of regional and international issues of mutual concern.
