Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has formally signed an agreement with Emaar Properties to begin a significant upgrade of the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station, aimed at boosting capacity and improving passenger flow at one of the city’s busiest transit hubs.
The collaboration, announced on the sidelines of the Dubai World Project Management Forum, will see the station’s footprint grow from 6,700 square metres to 8,500 square metres, increasing its capacity by 65 percent to handle up to 220,000 passengers per day. Enhancements will include expanded platform and concourse areas, additional escalators and lifts, dedicated entry and exit gates, more fare gates, upgraded pedestrian bridges, and expanded commercial zones.
Officials said the upgrade responds to steadily rising demand particularly during high-traffic periods such as New Year’s Eve, national holidays and major events and reflects Dubai’s broader strategy to strengthen public transport infrastructure in key urban areas. Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station serves as a strategic gateway to prominent destinations including the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall and Downtown Dubai, making it critical to urban mobility and tourism.
The agreement was signed by Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, and Mohamed Alabbar, Founder of Emaar and Noon and Chairman of Eagle Hills. Both leaders described the project as an example of effective public-private partnership supporting Dubai’s sustainable urban growth and improving the daily commute for residents and visitors alike.
