Washington D.C.: The United States said it is closely monitoring developments in Aleppo and surrounding areas, urging all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that could further escalate tensions.

In a statement, US Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander Admiral Brad Cooper stressed the importance of protecting civilians and critical infrastructure, and called on all relevant actors to return to negotiations in good faith to achieve a durable diplomatic solution.

Cooper said a Syria at peace with itself and its neighbours would contribute to greater stability and prosperity across the Middle East, adding that both the United States and Syria share an interest in preserving peace and regional stability.

"We are closely monitoring developments in Aleppo and the surrounding region. We urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint, avoid actions that could further escalate tensions and prioritise the protection of civilians and critical infrastructure. We also continue to call on all relevant actors to return to the negotiating table in good faith and to pursue a durable diplomatic resolution through dialogue. As I've previously stated, a Syria at peace with itself and its neighbours can lead to a more peaceful and prosperous Middle East. The United States and Syria have a shared interest in preserving peace and stability across the region," Adm. Brad Cooper posted on social media platforms.
