Nuuk: Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen has reaffirmed the territory’s political and strategic alignment with Denmark and its Western partners, stressing Greenland’s commitment to existing alliances.
“If we have to choose between the United States and Denmark here and now, we choose Denmark. We choose NATO. We choose the Kingdom of Denmark. We choose the EU,” Prime Minister Nielsen said in remarks underscoring Greenland’s foreign and security policy stance.
The Prime Minister’s statement highlights Greenland’s continued support for Denmark as part of the Kingdom of Denmark, as well as its alignment with NATO and the European Union amid growing geopolitical interest in the Arctic region.
Greenland, while enjoying extensive self-rule, remains part of the Kingdom of Denmark, with Copenhagen responsible for its foreign affairs and defence. The territory has gained increased strategic importance in recent years due to its location, natural resources, and evolving Arctic security dynamics.
