Starting January 1, 2026, the UAE will implement significant policy changes that prioritize a balance between religious obligations and daily schedules, specifically regarding the Friday prayer timings. A nationwide update by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat has standardised the Friday sermon and prayer to begin at 12:45 PM across all emirates, starting January 2. This standardisation is intended to improve organisational consistency and ensure that worshippers nationwide have a unified schedule for congregational prayers.

In direct response to this shift, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) announced that private schools and early childhood centers in Dubai must adjust their schedules starting January 9, 2026. Schools will now be required to dismiss students no later than 11:30 AM on Fridays to allow staff and families sufficient time to return home and prepare for the 12:45 PM prayers. These coordinated updates reflect a strategic effort by UAE authorities to align educational and social infrastructures with religious practices while maintaining a structured environment for residents and students.
