Lebanon, Oman Pledge to Enhance Bilateral Relations
Muscat: On the occasion of the official visit of His Excellency the President of Lebanon General Joseph Aoun to the Sultanate of Oman, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the Sultan of Oman, hosted an official dinner at Al Alam Palace guesthouse in the honour of HE the President and his accompanying delegation.
The event included an exchange of orders and commemorative gifts, with His Majesty the Sultan conferring Oman Military Order ‘First Class’ on the Lebanese President, and the President awarding HM the Sultan the ‘National Order of the Cedar, Grand Collar’, Lebanon's highest medal.
During their private meeting, the two leaders discussed enhancing cooperation and partnership opportunities, strengthening bilateral relations in cultural, economic and developmental sectors. They also issued a joint statement directing preparations for the first Omani-Lebanese Joint Committee session, aiming to conclude agreements and memoranda of understanding to boost cooperation.
Oman and Lebanon have pledged to enhance cooperation in economic, cultural, and scientific fields, with the two countries affirming the importance of concluding agreements and memoranda of understanding to support bilateral exchange.
In a joint statement, HM the Sultan of Oman and the Lebanese President expressed deep concern over continued Israeli attacks on Palestinian territories and land violations, describing it as a dangerous escalation against the Palestinian people. Both sides stressed the need to end Israeli violations and called for full compliance with international legitimacy resolutions issued since 1701.
The Lebanese President reaffirmed his country's firm position on ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state along the borders of 4 June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The statement also emphasised the importance of enhancing Arab solidarity, safeguarding the sovereignty of nations, and upholding the principles of good neighbourliness and international law.
