U.S. President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino introduced the “FIFA PASS,” a new system designed to help international fans secure faster visa interview appointments ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

A New System to Ease Visa Backlogs

With the United States set to host the majority of the tournament’s matches, officials expect millions of foreign visitors. Many U.S. consulates continue to face long appointment delays, and the FIFA PASS aims to ease this pressure by giving eligible ticket holders access to a priority interview scheduling system.

Infantino called the initiative a practical measure to support global attendance, noting that any fan who purchases an official ticket through FIFA.com/tickets will be able to request a priority visa interview slot.

Priority Scheduling — Not a Shortcut to Approval

U.S. officials emphasized that while the system allows for faster appointment access, it does not alter visa rules or influence outcomes. Applicants must still follow all standard procedures:

Complete the DS-160 form

Pay the required visa fee

Attend the in-person interview

Pass routine security and background checks

“Your ticket is not a visa,” said Secretary of State Marco Rubio. “It does not guarantee entry to the United States. Every applicant will undergo the same vetting process.”

Early projections suggest that priority scheduling could shorten interview wait times to around 60 days in regions where delays are currently much longer.

Who Needs a Visa for the 2026 Tournament?

Entry rules remain unchanged:

Visa Waiver Program travelers (including most of Europe) must obtain an ESTA authorization before departure.

Travelers not eligible for ESTA must apply for a standard B1/B2 tourist visa.

The FIFA PASS does not replace a visa or ESTA. It only provides earlier access to an interview appointment for those who have purchased official match tickets.

Streamlining Travel Ahead of a Global Event

As the United States prepares to host 78 of the 104 World Cup matches, the FIFA PASS is expected to support smoother travel flows and help consular teams manage unprecedented demand during one of the world’s most-watched sporting events.
