US President Donald Trump withdrew his endorsement of Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene on Friday, calling the once-loyal ally a “ranting lunatic” after a series of public clashes.
The break marks a rare and significant split within Trump’s MAGA movement as Republicans brace for the 2026 midterm elections. Trump has faced mounting criticism over rising living costs and renewed scrutiny tied to the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Greene “only complains” and signaled he would support a primary challenger in Georgia, claiming voters there were “fed up with her antics.” He added that if “the right person runs, they will have my Complete and Unyielding Support.”
Greene quickly fired back on X, saying she does not “worship or serve Donald Trump.” She accused Trump of retaliating against her — and warning other Republicans — because she supports congressional efforts to force the release of the full Epstein investigation files.
The rupture comes after Republicans suffered major setbacks in off-year elections earlier this month. Greene, 51, was long one of Trump’s most vocal defenders but has recently diverged with him on several fronts, including Gaza, healthcare, and cost-of-living issues. She has urged Trump to prioritize domestic challenges over foreign policy.
Tensions escalated further this week when Greene joined Democrats in supporting a push to compel the administration to release Epstein-related documents. She claimed Trump is attacking her to “scare” Republicans ahead of next week’s vote.
Once a staunch MAGA figure known for incendiary rhetoric and past promotion of QAnon conspiracy theories, Greene’s recent shift has sparked speculation about future political ambitions — including a possible 2028 presidential bid — though she has dismissed such talk as “baseless gossip.”
