Hamas Signals Readiness for Peace Talks as Trump Unveils Bold Gaza Plan
Hamas announced on Friday its willingness to engage in immediate talks aimed at releasing Israeli hostages and ending the nearly two-year war in Gaza, following a sweeping peace proposal unveiled by U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this week.
The 20-point plan, revealed at the White House on Monday alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, outlines a roadmap to end hostilities, rebuild Gaza, and pave the way for long-term stability in the region. Netanyahu cautiously welcomed the proposal, describing it as “a framework worth exploring.”
Trump’s Vision: From Conflict Zone to “New Gaza”
At the heart of Trump’s plan is the transformation of Gaza into a “deradicalized, terror-free zone” focused on rebuilding and economic revival. Under the proposal, all military activities would halt immediately once both sides agree, followed by a 72-hour window for the release of Israeli hostages.
In return, Israel would release 1,950 Palestinian prisoners, including women and children, and return the remains of Gazans who died during the conflict.
Governance and International Oversight
A central pillar of the plan envisions Gaza being governed temporarily by a technocratic Palestinian committee, overseen by an international “Board of Peace” chaired by President Trump himself. The board, which may include figures like former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, would guide reconstruction efforts and attract global investment until the Palestinian Authority is ready to assume control.
Economic Rebirth and Humanitarian Relief
Trump’s blueprint promises an immediate surge of humanitarian aid, infrastructure repair, and economic revival. A special economic zone with favorable trade conditions would be established to draw investors and create jobs. The United States would also coordinate a temporary International Stabilization Force (ISF) to help secure Gaza and train local police, with cooperation from Jordan and Egypt.
“No one will be forced to leave Gaza,” the plan assures, emphasizing freedom of movement and a renewed sense of opportunity for residents.
Security and Demilitarization
Under the proposal, Hamas would disarm and renounce governance, while tunnels, weapon facilities, and militant infrastructure would be dismantled under international supervision. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) would gradually withdraw as Gaza becomes stable and demilitarized, with the ISF taking over security responsibilities.
Pathway to Peace and Statehood
The document concludes with a broader vision — one that aspires to establish a credible pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood, should reforms and peace efforts succeed. An interfaith dialogue initiative would also be launched to promote understanding and coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians.
While skepticism remains across political spectrums, Friday’s response from Hamas — expressing openness to negotiation — marks a potentially significant moment after years of devastating conflict.
If realized, Trump’s plan could usher in not only the end of war, but also the beginning of a new Gaza — rebuilt, reimagined, and ready to coexist in peace.
