Trump Says Gaza Peace Deal Near, Hints at Hostage Release

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that negotiations are close to reaching an agreement aimed at ending the war in Gaza and securing the release of hostages.

Speaking to reporters before leaving the White House to attend the Ryder Cup golf tournament in New York, Trump remarked: “It looks like we’re about to reach a deal on Gaza. I believe it’s an agreement that brings the hostages home and ends the war.” He did not provide further details.

The comments came as world leaders gathered in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, where the United States unveiled a 21-point Middle East peace plan designed to end Israel’s nearly two-year-long military campaign in Gaza.

U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed that the proposal was presented on Tuesday to officials from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan.

Trump, considered Israel’s strongest ally on the international stage, also noted that he held talks on Thursday with representatives from several Middle Eastern countries as well as with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
