Denmark has announced plans to acquire long-range precision weapons for the first time in its history, marking what officials describe as a significant shift in national defense policy.
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen revealed the move during a press conference on Wednesday, emphasizing the growing security challenges posed by Russia.
“For the first time, Denmark is to build up military capacity in the form of long-range precision weapons. This is a paradigm shift in Danish defence policy,” Frederiksen stated. She stressed that Russia will remain a security threat to both Denmark and Europe for many years to come.
The decision underscores Denmark’s broader efforts to strengthen its deterrence capabilities as tensions continue to mount in the region following Moscow’s ongoing confrontational stance toward Europe.
