A controversial birthday letter allegedly written by former U.S. President Donald Trump to financier Jeffrey Epstein in 2003 has been made public by a congressional committee investigating Epstein’s sex crimes.
The letter, published Monday by the House Oversight Committee, was typewritten inside the sketch of a nude woman. It was part of a collection of notes from Epstein’s friends, compiled by his associate Ghislaine Maxwell for his 50th birthday. Maxwell is currently serving a prison sentence for her role in Epstein’s crimes.
The Wall Street Journal first reported on the existence of the book in July, which later prompted Trump, 79, to file a $10 billion defamation lawsuit, denying any connection to such a letter.
According to the committee, Trump’s alleged note featured a short dialogue between “Donald” and “Jeffrey,” ending with a birthday message signed in Trump’s name. The signature was placed in the nude sketch in a crude manner. Another letter in the collection also referred to Trump, alongside a photo of Epstein holding a large check signed “DJ Trump,” though the handwriting did not match Trump’s usual style.
Democrats on the committee released the Trump letter ahead of the full publication of the book, drawing criticism from Republican Chairman James Comer, who accused them of “politicizing information.”
The White House dismissed the document’s authenticity. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “It’s very clear President Donald Trump did not draw this picture and he did not sign it.”
The committee also subpoenaed additional records from Epstein’s estate, including bank documents, as part of its wider investigation into how Epstein’s case was handled.
