World Food Programme urges urgent revival of food distribution to prevent famine.
The United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that Gaza is “at breaking point,” as hunger and desperation continue to rise across the region.
Cindy McCain, WFP Executive Director, called for the urgent reopening of the organization’s 200 food distribution points to prevent famine from spreading. She made the comments after visiting Palestinian children suffering from severe malnutrition.
“Gaza is at a breaking point. Desperation is soaring — and I saw it firsthand,” McCain said. She described the children she met as “unrecognisable” compared to earlier photos taken when they were healthy.
The WFP stressed that immediate action is needed to reach vulnerable populations and provide life-saving food supplies.
