At least nine Pakistani soldiers have been killed after militants carried out a deadly attack in the restive southwestern province of Balochistan, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
According to a senior official from Washuk district, a large group of armed militants stormed both a police station and a border security compound. As army troops rushed to help, their convoy came under heavy fire.
“The terrorists ambushed the soldiers while they were on their way to respond,” the official told AFP. He requested anonymity as he was not authorised to speak to the media.
Balochistan, which borders Afghanistan and Iran, has long struggled with insurgent violence targeting security forces and government installations.
