The Vice Chancellor of RCSI in Dublin, Professor Cathal Kelly, and President of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) - Medical University of Bahrain, Professor Sameer Otoom, hosted Professor Manaf Alqahtani on campus to extend sincere congratulations on his new appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Disease Prevention and Control at the General Secretariat of the Gulf Health Council.

Professor Alqahtani’s distinguished nomination reflects his remarkable career in advanced microbiology and infectious diseases, contributions to laboratory integration, public health systems, global advisory work and leadership roles in Bahrain and beyond.

The University is especially grateful for Professor Alqahtani’s 16 years of academic service at RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, where he founded the Department of Microbiology and advanced undergraduate education and research.  He also contributed to medical specialty training at national level with the launch of the National Fellowship in Infectious Diseases in 2024.

We look forward to our continued collaboration, and we wish Professor Alqahtani the best of success in his new role.
