What is your favourite restaurant to visit in Bahrain, and why?

ManamaBahrain is an archipelago known for its hospitality, friendliness and diverse culture. One of the most popular “things to do” in Bahrain is to dine out. Most people have a favourite restaurant that they visit often and fondly revisit in their minds when they can’t do so. DT News spoke to a handful of people on the island to ascertain their favourite restaurant here. The comments were fun to hear, as every person has their own unique taste buds and different “take” on restaurants.

Sami Murtaza, a self-employed nutritionist living in Bahrain who manages a Facebook page on eclectic and practical nutrition called Alitura, was very forthright and succinct in his comments, “My favourite restaurant would have to be the Orangery Tearoom & Patisserie. I really like the ambience with its luscious green gardens and the dishes bring together a bit of everything. There are plenty of vegetarian options too, which I appreciate! They make lovely cakes, which cater to the sweet tooth in some of us. The staff are friendly and prices are respectable. Overall, I’ve found it to be a very pleasant experience each time I’ve been there.”

Emily-faith Sanders, who just recently moved to Bahrain from the US and used to work in a bank as a vault teller, said, “You might think I am silly, but I love the Yum Yum Tree. It’s a tiny little place on American alley. I have eaten there a billion times since we moved here. They have the most amazing shrimp/steak noodles. You can eat outside on the patio and they will bring your food and drinks to you. They are very friendly and always smiling.”

Hamad Al Marhoon, owner and manager of an automotive customising business called ONEighty GCC, who articulated, “I love Jan burger, they’re the best at satisfying my cravings for soft buns.”

Mahmoud Haji, an IT Consultant in Bahrain, rounded off the Q&A with his response, “Cocos, ‘cause the food’s good and the place is nice ‘cause it’s small and crowded - makes you feel alive or something!”
