Hyundai Announces $86 Billion Investment in AI and Robotics

Hyundai Motor announced on Sunday a sweeping investment plan worth 125.2 trillion won (US$86 billion) to be poured into South Korea over the next five years, marking one of the boldest technological pushes in its history. The spending will center on artificial intelligence, robotics, and other next-generation technologies, underscoring the company’s drive to reinforce its domestic industrial foundation and secure new engines of growth.

According to Hyundai, the decision follows the release of a joint fact sheet by Seoul and Washington, which detailed elements of their latest trade agreement. One key outcome of the deal was a reduction in U.S. tariffs on imported Korean cars and auto parts from 25 percent down to 15 percent, a shift expected to ease market pressures and open new opportunities for Korean automakers.

The record-breaking investment plan was unveiled shortly after Hyundai CEO Eopson Choechung met with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and senior economic officials. The high-level meeting signals strong collaboration between the government and one of the nation’s industrial pillars as they navigate global competition and rapidly evolving technologies.
