Ioana, Simona clinch girls’ doubles title

Romanian tandem Ioana Stefania Boian and Simona Cucu, and Turkish duo Ramazan Kaan Oktay and Utku Kerem Biberli, were yesterday crowned champions of their respective doubles categories in the Bahrain International Tennis Federation (ITF) Juniors Championship 2024.

The tournament is currently being played at the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) courts in Isa Town.

Ioana and Simona captured the girls’ doubles title after defeating American Ava Khalil and Briton Casey Mauro in their final, while Oktay and Biberli overcame Jordanian Zaid Shelbaya and Austrian Hartmut Fiedler to clinch the boys’ doubles crown.

With those results, both Ioana and Oktay have a chance to come away with back-to-back titles in the competition.

They both have also advanced to the finals of their respective singles categories. The two deciders will be played today at the BTF on the final day of play in this tournament.

In yesterday’s girls’ doubles final, Ioana and Simona were 6-4, 6-4 winners against Ava and Casey.

Live up On the distaff, Oktay and Biberli lived up to their seeding in third and defeated Shelbaya and Fiedler 7-5, 6-0.

Meanwhile, in the girls’ singles semi-finals, Ioana defeated seventh seed Irina Khayndrava 6-4, 6-3, and set up her title clash with Samira Rashidova, who won against fourth seed Milana Konovalova, who retired from their contest in the second set due to injury.

In the boys’ singles finals, Oktay will be squaring off with Khaled Ibrahim of Egypt.

Sixth-seeded Oktay defeated third seed Rafael Asadullin 6-0, 6-2 in the semis to book his berth in the championship match, while Ibrahim was a 6-2, 6-2 victor against eighth seed Shelbaya.

Today is the final day of the tournament, which is a part of the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors Calendar 2024.

All are welcome to watch the singles finals at the BTF.

The competition is a J30 event. It will be followed by another J30 event between February 26 and March 2, forming an impressive back-to-back of ITF juniors tournaments in the Kingdom.
