Koreans trump Bahrain

Bahrain went down to a fifth successive 90-59 to South Korea in the concluding second round of matches in Group F yesterday in the 2015 FIBA Asia Under-16 Basketball at the Pulogadung Arena in Jakarta, Indonesia. 

The national team trailed 13-21 after the first quarter and fell further behind to 22-49 by half time, but despite winning the final two quarters and going into the final quarter 42-64 behind, it was too little too late. 

Top scoring for South Korea was Seomoon Sechan (20 points) and for Bahrain BaqerAli(15)

Bahrain’s squad is coached by Aaron Mitchell and comprised of Ali Salman, Mohammed Mohammed, Ayman Al Saffar. Hussain Ali (Shooting Guard), Hussain Ali (Power Forward), Fadhel Abdul Hussain, Baqer Ali, Noman Ahmed Khan, Hussain Mohammed and Mohammed Al Majed.

Bahrain had previously lost to three-time defending champions China 85-43 in the first match of the second round, then 64-44 to Iraq in the second game, while also losing to the Philippines 98-58 and Thailand 65-58 in the first round of qualifying. 

Today is a rest day and Bahrain are set to play tomorrow against Indonesia in a 9th to 12th place classification match, while Iraq play Malaysia, with the main quarterfinals set to be played. 

The quarterfinals feature Chinese Taipei against Thailand, Lebanon against South Korea, Japan taking on Philippines and Kuwait against three-time defending champion China. 

Results: Group E: Chinese Taipei bt Japan 83-75, Lebanon bt Malaysia 83-79, Kuwait bt Indonesia 79-63. Group F: South Korea bt Bahrain 90-59, Thailand bt Iraq 52-49, Philippines bt China 78-72.
