Rop finishes 11 out of 15

Bahrain’s Albert Kibichii Rop (14 minutes 00.12 seconds) yesterday finished 11 out of 15 in the 5,000 metres on the penultimate day at the Fifth World Athletics Championships hosted by China at its National Stadium in Beijing. Rop was still in contention for the Kingdom’s first medal at the championships at the 4,000 metres mark as he and Yomif Kejekha from Ethiopia were tucked in behind double 5,000 metres and 10,000 metres 2012 London Olympics gold medallist Mohamed Farah of Great Britain who was leading at the time and went on to victory.

Farah (13 minutes 50 minutes 38 seconds) took the gold, Kenya’s Caleb Mwangangi Ndiki (13:51.75) the silver and Ethiopia’s Hagos Gebrhiwet (13:51.86) bronze.

Meanwhile today, Bahrain’s Mimi Belete competes in the women’s 5,000 metres final and Lishan Dula, Eunice Jepkirui Kirwa and Aster Tesfaye are all in action in the women’s marathon.

Shumi Dechasa, Aadan Ismael Khamis, Ali Hassan Mahboob (marathon), Nelson Kipkosgei Cherutich, John Kibet Koech (3,000 metres steeplechase), Abraham Kupchirchir Rotich (800 metres), El Hassan Elabbassi (10,000 metres), Aweke Ayalew (10,000/5,000 metres), Benson Kipligat Seurei (1,500 metres) and Abbas Abubakar Abbas (400 metres), (women): Oluwakemi Adekoya (400 metres hurdles) and Ruth Jebet (3,000 metres steeplechase).
