Bahrain continued their impressive momentum at the 4th GCC Games in Doha yesterday, producing another strong medal haul across swimming, boxing, and athletics as the Kingdom reinforced its status as one of the standout teams of the competition.
At the Hamad Aquatics Centre, Bahrain’s swimmers once again delivered under pressure in a highly competitive session featuring regional rivals Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Oman. Bahrain Aquatics President Abdulla Attiya was in attendance, supporting the team and witnessing several medal-winning performances firsthand.
The opening statement came from Robert Bonsall, who claimed gold in the men’s 400m individual medley in 4:27.71 after a tightly contested race, edging Qatar’s Emile Fouzai and Kuwait’s Khaled Alotaibi in a strong finish.
Momentum continued through the program. Saud Ghali secured silver in the 100m breaststroke, narrowly behind Qatar’s Mohamed Mahmood. Mikhail Arkhangelskiy then produced one of the standout swims of the night, powering to gold in the 50m butterfly in 23.80 seconds.
Bahrain capped the session with a hard-fought bronze in the 4x200m freestyle relay, rounding off a competitive showing in the pool.
Over at the Aspire Dome Main Hall, Bahrain’s boxing team produced their strongest performances of the Games, collecting a gold and a silver under newly appointed Irish head coach John Conlon.
In the men’s 75kg final, Aly Abdalla delivered a composed performance against Qatar’s Mohammed Dbichi, controlling the bout with sharp jab work and ring awareness to secure a convincing 4–1 points victory and claim gold.
Bahrain also picked up silver in the men’s 60kg category, where Omar Budhahei pushed Saudi Arabia’s Ziad Majrashi in a competitive final before narrowly falling short on the judges’ scorecards.
Despite the defeat, the two-medal finish reflected a positive step forward for Bahrain’s boxing programme under its new leadership.
At the Qatar Sports Club, Bahrain’s athletics team opened their campaign with a series of strong performances across track and field.
The women’s 100m delivered one of the most emphatic moments of the evening, as Raihanah Garoubah stormed to gold in 11.35 seconds, with teammate Layla Kamal completing a Bahrain 1–2 finish in 11.38.
Bahrain repeated that dominance in the women’s 800m, where Nelly Korir claimed gold in 2:00.54 ahead of teammate Zenab Mahamat, who secured silver in a time of 2:09.18, completing another 1–2 finish for the Kingdom.
