Eight Top Horses Prepare for Bahrain’s Richest Race of The Year
The 7th edition of the Bahrain International Trophy promises an exciting evening of racing at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir, with the feature 2,000-metre Group Two contest set to run under floodlights at 7:40pm tonight. Wednesday’s post-position draw, held at the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay, offered a glimpse of how the elite field will line up and the challenges that lie ahead for both horse and rider.
His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Court and Chairman of the REHC High Committee, was on hand for the draw. He praised Bahrain’s growing reputation as a host of world-class equestrian events, noting that the race attracts top stables from across Europe and the Middle East. “The Bahrain International Trophy has become a benchmark for international competition, reflecting the Kingdom’s ability to deliver top-tier racing,” HH Shaikh Isa said.
The post-position draw set the stage for a captivating evening. Lion’s Pride (UK) will start from Gate 1, Military Order (UAE) from Gate 2, and Royal Champion (UK) from Gate 3. The remainder of the field features Bright Picture (France) in Gate 4, Galen (Ireland) in Gate 5, Pride of Arras (UK) in Gate 6, Persica (UK) in Gate 7, and Calif (Bahrain) in Gate 8. Calif is a six-year-old gelding with international experience, representing Bahrain’s Victorious Forever stable, founded by HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The lineup also features some of the world’s most accomplished trainers, including Andre Fabre, Richard Hannon, Joseph O’Brien, Karl Burke, Charlie Appleby, John and Thady Gosden, and Bahrain’s own Fawzi Nass.
The Bahrain International Trophy is not the only highlight of the weekend. The card also features seven additional races sponsored by leading brands including Beyon Group, Bapco Energies, the Bahrain Economic Development Board, Brown Advisory, Grand Seiko – Bahrain Jewellery Centre, Gulf Air, and Ebrahim Khalil Kanoo – Lexus. These contests promise competitive fields and engaging action for both local and international audiences.
As the lights shine on the Sakhir track tonight, all eyes will be on the Bahrain International Trophy for what promises to be a spectacular shiw of speed strategy.
