Bahrain Claim Mixed Doubles Bronze at Islamic Solidarity Games
Bahrain’s Rashed Rashed and Kenda Mohamed secured a bronze medal in mixed doubles table tennis at the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games yesterday in Riyadh, adding to the Kingdom’s strong showing across multiple sports.
The pair advanced to the semi-finals with a convincing 3–0 win over Saudi Arabia in the quarter-finals, but were edged out 3–1 by Bangladesh’s Ahmed Md Javed and Marma Khoy Khoy Sai. Bahrain lost a tight first game 13–11, bounced back to take the second 11–7, but Bangladesh held their nerve to claim the final two games 12–10 and 11–3.
Rashed and Kenda were consistent throughout the tournament. Rashed helped Bahrain progress in the men’s team event, while Kenda impressed in both the women’s and mixed doubles brackets. In the end, their strong teamwork carried them to a well-deserved podium finish.
The bronze boosts Bahrain’s overall medal tally at the Games to 11 medals, including five golds, three silvers, and three bronzes, as the Islamic Solidarity Games enter their final week, set to conclude on November 21. With medals now in volleyball, weightlifting, judo, esports, and table tennis, Bahrain has once again shown its athletes can compete across a wide range of disciplines.
