Matthew Deakin, Shuvendu Bakshi Triumph at Awali Golf Club’s KPAO Qualifier

Matthew Deakin claimed his third consecutive prize with a net 68 in Division Two at the Awali Golf Club’s KPAO Qualifier, while Shuvendu Bakshi secured the overall winner title with a net 66. The event, sponsored by the American Mission Hospital (AMH), saw strong performances across all divisions in a matchplay qualifying round.
CEO Julia Tovey and Dr. Bhartendu Mehta represented AMH during the prize ceremony alongside Captain Steve Newall and Tournament Director Balbir Singh. Division One was won by veteran Ali Musbah (net 67), with Nasser Yaqoob Saleh taking the best gross honors at 72. Division Three winner Raghav Talwar scored a net 70 in his victory.
The KPAO tournament – named for Kingsbury (Division 1), Pinhey (Division 2), Ayto (Division 3), and O’Sullivan (ladies) – advances the top 16 qualifiers to a season-long matchplay bracket, with finals scheduled for April or May. The event highlights Awali Golf Club’s competitive season and continued partnership with AMH.
