Marc Marquez continued his winning streak, cruising to victory in the Hungarian Sprint race by almost three seconds on Sunday, extending his championship lead. It marked his seventh straight Sprint win and his sixth consecutive victory in the longer Sunday grand prix races on his factory Ducati.
Italian Fabio Di Giannantonio of the VR46 Ducati satellite team finished second, followed by teammate Franco Morbidelli in third. Marquez, a six-time world champion, started from pole position.
"I felt someone really close on the first corner, from there I quickly found a fast rhythm," Marquez said. "I'm very happy with this victory." He now leads the championship by 152 points over younger brother Alex Marquez, who finished eighth on his Ducati Gresini. Official Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia finished 13th and scored no points.
The race saw early incidents, with three riders crashing in the opening seconds. Fabio Quartararo, starting on the second row, collided with Enea Bastianini, while Bastianini later ran into Johann Zarco’s Honda, ending both their races. Quartararo received a long-lap penalty, and Bastianini was given two long laps for his second incident of the season.
The sprint event at Balaton Park highlighted both Marquez’s dominance and the chaotic challenges faced by other riders ahead of Sunday’s main race.
