Arab league condemns Iranian interference

Iran’s continued interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs was strongly condemned by League of Arab States Council during its 151st session held on Wednesday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Cairo.  The meeting affirmed the Kingdom full support in all measures taken to maintain its security and stability as well as welcomed a decision by world nations to designate Iran-backed ‘Saraya al-Ashtar’ in Bahrain as a terrorist organisation.

“This stance reflects the determination of world countries in confronting terrorism at a regional and international level,” the Council statement said. The council also welcomed a report submitted by Bahrain on the Iranian interference in its internal affairs during the period from January to December 2018 Speaking on the occasion, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Undersecretary of Regional and GCC Affairs, Waheed Mubarak Sayyar, stressed on the importance of supporting joint Arab action and affirmed Bahrain’s support to combat terrorism and terrorist groups.

Moving on, the Council discussed ways to enhance joint Arab action, followed up the developments of the Palestinian issue and the Arab-Israeli conflict, as well as activating the Arab peace initiative. Discussions also focused on the latest developments in Syria, security and combating terrorism, issues in Libya and Yemen and the dangers of Iran’s Bushehr nuclear reactor among others.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA)’s undersecretary participated in the meeting of the ‘Arab Ministerial Quartet Committee on Following-up on the Crisis with Iran’ and ways to address Iran’s interference in the internal affairs of the Arab countries held on the sidelines of the 151st session of Arab League Council at the ministerial level. The Council also confirmed its support to Bahrain in a number of its nominations for positions in the United Nations and its specialised agencies.
