The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications announced the pilot launch of the “Uber Black” service in the Kingdom of Bahrain, in collaboration with licensed transport companies and the Uber platform, as part of a regulated framework aimed at enhancing service quality and reliability.

Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen, Undersecretary for Land Transport and Post at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, said the ministry continues its efforts to develop the transport and mobility sector in Bahrain and to provide diverse travel options that meet the expectations of different segments of society.

She explained that the service will initially operate on a limited pilot basis through partnerships with licensed companies in Bahrain and via the Uber platform. The phased rollout will allow authorities to assess service quality and operational performance before considering broader expansion.

Al Dhaen noted that Uber Black will be available in selected and carefully designated locations, with users able to view service coverage directly through the Uber application. This, she said, enhances transparency and provides a clear and user-friendly experience.

She added that the service, which operates under the supervision and regulation of the ministry, offers a premium transport experience focused on luxury and professionalism. It will be delivered through a fleet of high-end vehicles owned by licensed companies specializing in chauffeur-driven luxury car services.

All vehicles, she confirmed, undergo regular technical inspections approved by relevant authorities to ensure the highest levels of safety, comfort, and reliability for passengers.

Al Dhaen said the initiative aligns with the ministry’s strategy to improve public service quality and to promote the adoption of modern technologies and innovation within Bahrain’s transport sector.

Uber Bahrain General Manager Youssef Abu Saif welcomed the collaboration, saying the pilot launch marks an important milestone in efforts to provide more diverse mobility options while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.

“We are pleased to work with the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications to launch Uber Black on a pilot basis in Bahrain,” he said. “This step reflects our shared commitment to enhancing transport services and we look forward to evaluating the experience and supporting the development of the sector.”
