Colouring book to beat bullying

A child protection initiative is trying to spread awareness about bullying by launching a colouring book.

“I’m a Respectful, Strong, and Smart Child was launched by Be-Free Programme of the Bahrain Women Association with the support of Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait to help children understand bullying. The book will also help children replace bullying with “positive concepts and actions so their presence becomes a source of goodness for others,” a Be-Free Programme volunteer said.

“The colouring book contains important concepts for children in Arabic and English text. The book has a drawing of an act of bullying on one page along with a simple description, and another drawing of a positive act on the next page along with a simple description, and so on,” the representative said.

“Parents and teachers can download the colouring book from Be-Free website and use it as an interactive training tool to help children understand what bullying is, its effects, and encouraging them to adapt concepts and actions that bring goodness for others. The book is a publication of our “Me and the Other” project that works on building a culture of respecting the different others and emphasise dealing with others based on universal human values. Moreover, the project seeks to limit bullying among children and teens, and empower them with concepts and skills that protect them from bullying and help them avoid being a bully,” the spokesperson said.
