Food trucks or restaurants on wheels are swiftly becoming a popular option among those looking for new food experiences in the Kingdom.

The newly opened food truck area near the Bahrain National Stadium, which houses more than 50 trucks, speak volumes about this delicious trend.

Now, Muharraq Municipality says they too are game for the trend which is picking pace.

Authorities there have also set aside two spots - one in Busaiteen and another at Galali - for food trucks to roll in.

Those interested can contact the municipality by e-mail faebrahim@mun.gov.bh or via the WhatsApp service on 17984174 to reserve a spot.

However, to secure a license, there are some criteria to fulfil.

One amongst is that the applicant should be a Bahraini with relevant experience.

Applicant should also be working in his food truck venture to get a license in Muharraq.

Other requirements include maintaining a one-meter distance between food trucks in all directions and disposing of water materials only in designated areas.

“This is to ensure the safety of electrical connection and maintain the cleanliness of the site,” said Muharraq officials.

Food truck owners also should not cause any noise pollution in the area.

If you meet all these, then the municipality officials will give you a license, after inspecting food trucks.

Officials also warn that they “will conduct field inspections time and again to ensure adherences to safety standards.”

The project aims at creating opportunities for Bahraini owners of small and medium enterprises.

The move is in line with the vision of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs, and HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the First Vice President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, to support and embrace the national projects.

The decision is as per law No. (38) of the year 2020 regarding the controls and requirements for places to practice food service activities in mobile vehicles.
