High-spirited Grosjean recovering in BDF Hospital amid special care, deluge of good wishes

French F1 driver Romain Grosjean has taken to Instagram to thank the medical staff that has helped him immediately after his Haas car pierced through a crash barrier, split in two and burst into a huge fireball at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC).

"Thanks to all the medical staff at the circuit and hospital and hopefully I can write you some messages," he said in a short video viewed by about 2.5 million people.

"I wanted to say I am OK. Thank you very much for all the messages," he said.

The 34-year-old father of "three wonderful kids" was kept overnight at the BDF Hospital in Riffa, around 17 kilometers from the BIC, to receive treatment for his burned hands.

"Thank you for all the support and to the FIA and medical crews that took care of me. Hope to see you all soon," he wrote in the caption.

BIC Chairman Arif Rahimi wished Grosjean speedy recovery.

“We offer our very best wishes to Roman Grosjean as he undergoes further evaluation at BDF Hospital, following his accident at the start of the race," he said.

"Incidents of this nature are a reminder of the incredible work which the FIA has undertaken to improve safety in the sport. I also thank the FIA medical team and our marshals for their incredibly swift and decisive action in responding to this incident," Rahimi said.

Haas team boss Guenther Steiner praised the marshals for their prompt response.

"I would like to thank all the marshals," Steiner said. "They did a fantastic job to get him away as quick as possible from the fire. It was amazing what they did."
