Tracking progress

The Cabinet chaired by Deputy Prime Minister HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa yesterday approved a mechanism to follow up on ministries’ implementation of the programmes and plans included in the Government Action Plan (GAP) 2019-2022. The mechanism will be included in the follow-up system supervised by HRH the Prime Minister’s Court.

HH Shaikh Mohammed directed ministries and government departments to submit periodic reports to the Cabinet on the implementation progress of each programme or plan included in GAP, and to submit follow-up memoranda to take the necessary measures to overcome any obstacles, said Cabinet Secretary-General Dr Yasser Al Nasser in a post-session statement. Among other things, the Cabinet hailed the good performance of the national economy during the first quarter of this year, citing the remarkable increase of the gross domestic product (GDP) to 2.7 per cent.

Figures included in the quarterly economic report for the Kingdom, presented by the Minister of Finance and National Economy, showed a growth in the oil sector by 9.2pc, as well as in the contributions of non-oil sectors to the GDP. The report revealed that the contributions of the hotels and restaurants sector, financial corporations sector and the construction sector to the GDP have gone up by 8pc, 3.5pc and 2.9pc, respectively, in the first quarter of 2019 compared to the same period of 2018.
