August 2015 goes on record as the second hottest August ever experienced in Bahrain since 1902, The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported. It was also the sunniest month ever recorded in Bahrain.

The mean temperature of the month was 36.1°C, 2.1°C above the long-term normal. It is the second highest mean monthly temperature, below August 1998, which recorded 36.5°C.

Aug 27 recorded 44.3°C, the highest temperature of the month, due to warm southwesterly to northwesterly winds.

Bahrain had a total of 23 days with maximum temperature exceeding 40°C this month, which is the highest number of days in Bahrain’s history.

The lowest temperature recorded was 31.8°C, on August 6 and 17, at Bahrain International Airport (BIA). The mean relative humidity for August was 60 per cent.

The Meteorological Directorate said the month was also humid due to the absence of Shamal winds.

Haze was reported on August 3 and with visibility dropping to 4000 meters at BIA.
