Call to revive media sector
Information Minister Ali bin Mohammed Al Rumaihi yesterday highlighted the threats faced by the communication sector in the Arab region saying, “it is imperative to seek an influential industry in this vital sector.” Raising it as a collective concern, the minister said it is necessary to have Arab officials as key players in the media sector in view of its likely negative impact in the absence of media influencers.
The minister was speaking during the Arab Media Forum’s opening session held under the patronage of Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and themed “Arab Media: The Reality and Future”. The minister praised His Highness’s leading initiatives in the various fields as well as his keenness on boosting the joint Arab media work.
The minister also strongly criticised media channels for their continuous meddling in the internal affairs of countries with an objective either to undermine the security or to sow divisions in the society.
